Helping us to help others

The Waikouaiti Coast Heritage Centre is a 'knowledge bank' which is pivotal to the community.
  • It collates, records, preserves and safe-guards archeological & heritage items from our past which are both sentimental to our local community and connect our past with our present, and our future.
  • The centre educates our youngsters & provides an opportunity to keep us connected to our local heritage.
  • We provide tourists with an interesting attraction & our collection is extensive. Visitors are able to experience a snap shot of our rich and varied local history.
  • We help you to trace your family ancestry.  Our Genealogy Research Centre is a very popular resource as we seek to learn about our ancestry & heritage. More of us are looking to understand our our past, which helps to link us to our present.
  • We showcase Waikouaiti and our surrounding coastal communities. We live in a lovely and vibrant community and we exist to record, celebrate & share all the things that make our community a special place.
The Waikouaiti Coast Heritage Centre is one of New Zealand’s leading regional museums and an important national icon.

We are undertaking a phase of development that will preserve the centre for generations to come. On-going development including restoration of our stunning Heritage NZ Grade 1 listed Bank of New Zealand Building requires continued support, both financially & 'hands on'.
